Mineral Makeup: The Revolution

Mineral makeup became a hit a little over 10 years ago after Leslie Blodgett produced a few very enchanting late-night infomercials showing this miraculous new foundation with a more-than-natural look.

I was 15 years old, watching TV later than I should, when my teenage heart became enthralled with the idea of a no-makeup look on a made-up face! The eco-friendly revolution was just beginning and Al Gore was just starting his new job as Former Vice President and the new spokesperson and celebrity face of global warming.  Terms and ideas that edified nature and the earth were just becoming popular and people were still shocked by the lack of clothing on Abercrombie & Fitch models in the mall.

Today, mineral makeup seems to be the rage on every shelf at Target and on every face age 15-30.  Thankfully, as a 15 yr old girl BareMinerals had the raving new idea of sending out digital technology in their makeup kits to help the wanderer create a flawless finish look on their facial canvas.  I watched that "how-to" DVD about 10 times under I knew EXACTLY how to "swirl, tap, and buff" to perfection.

But today the wide range of mineral makeup land is like a vast ocean and a girl could feel like a row boat trying to steer herself through isle after isle at Sephora or Macy's being bamboozled, complimented, and put-down by every anxious wanna-be makeup artist at the counters.

Just last Christmas I was walking past a BeneFit counter only to be assaulted by the complexion girl pointing out my every flaw and telling me how she could fix it from 15 feet away!  I am sorry lady but you CANNOT see my blackheads from 15 ft. away even if you have superhero vision!

But the BareMinerals girls know how it is done.  They compliment you without flattery, and because the whole theme of BareMinerals is to give you a make-under, often they enhance your already beautiful & natural features.  Happily, the product sells itself and I have only run  into the occasional overachiever sales-girl in their boutiques.

All this being said, some girls would still rather read a blog than watch the How-to-DVD or let some stranger draw on the canvas of their face.  It is a personal space issue!  And it is with that in mind, that I welcome you to the BareMinerals Guru blog!

I am not and have never been employed by BareMinerals.  I don't have any professional makeup training. I am just a girl who is 25, still trying to maintain that flawless finish look I learned in my room when I was 15.  Naturally enhanced features, still keepin' it real, with a little flare on the side for the occasional outing.

My BareMinerals collection consists of several out-of-production kits as well as a few old ones and new ones  that are still in-stock:
THE MUST HAVE Getting Started Kit:http://www.bareescentuals.com/bareMinerals-Get-Started-Kit-with-Bonus-Gift/MasterGSK,default,pd.html?start=1&cgid=BM_COLLECTIONS

Skin Re-ver Upper: http://www.bareescentuals.com/Bare-Escentuals-bareVitamins/38643,default,pd.html?start=6&cgid=BM_PREP
This really did change my combination complexion into a balanced and healthy canvas.
The Basics Necessities: http://www.bareescentuals.com/Get-Started:-Eyes-Cheeks-Lips---Light-to-Medium/mastereyescheekslips,default,pd.html?start=5&cgid=BM_COLLECTIONS
If you are not a big DIY kinda girl, the kits are really the way to go for all your basics of a great daily look.  Not to much, not to little, just the basics. Anything that comes with a brush included is a bonus.  The more brushes you own, the more diversity you have with what you have.
Lips:http://www.bareescentuals.com/Sweet-Sparklers/52374,default,pd.html?start=7&cgid=BM_COLLECTIONS
Basic lipstick & gloss combinations, already paired in complimentary colors.  BUT if you are a VERY NATURAL girl, go with a different kit that has more nude and neutral colors. These both pop on most complexion shades.

Eyes: http://www.bareescentuals.com/Cast-Away/49296,default,pd.html?start=1&cgid=BM_COLLECTIONS
I like a toned down, natural eye...but pick an eye kit that fits your personality.  If you like to be bold and outgoing, get smoky eyes, or rocker eyes.  I will give descriptions of both later this month and how you can wear different looks with one eye kit.
Extras: http://www.bareescentuals.com/Black-Diamonds/47503,default,pd.html?start=3&cgid=BM_COLLECTIONS
This kit is brand new and a pretty awesome value if you want to bump up your colors, glosses, and brush collection all at once for under $100!

Subscribe to my blog and there will be more exciting tips and tricks to come!  Everytime I get a new kit, new color, or discover a new trick, I will be sure to share it with you!  I also frequently do makeup for friends weddings and occasions, just for fun and always visit a bareMinerals boutique for new ideas.

I have had the same set of brushes for almost 10 years, adding along the way.  Good brush maintenance is key to keeping your look fresh and natural.  It is also the key to keeping your canvas blemish-free.   But shampooing, cleansing, and conditioning those brushes takes a few tricks!
